The method
Keep in mind
Use the calculator to compare scenarios rather than as a guaranteed forecast.
Convert an amount between two currencies using a rate that you enter yourself. This is useful for checking a travel budget, a supplier quote or an overseas payment when you already have an exchange rate from a bank, card provider or invoice.
Enter the amount, source and destination currency codes and how much one unit of the source currency buys in the destination currency. The converted figure is the amount multiplied by that rate; the inverse rate is also shown. No live FX feed is consulted, and provider spreads, commissions and transaction fees must be checked separately.
If your provider quotes a GBP-to-EUR rate, enter 800 and that exact rate to estimate euros received. Compare it with the provider's final quote. If the totals differ, inspect the exchange spread and any transfer fee rather than assuming this calculator supplies a live market rate.

The core calculation or transformation runs in your browser. Normal website security and analytics may still record page-level events, but the tool does not need to create a public record from your inputs.
Using a mid-market rate from a news site and expecting a bank or card to match it. Forgetting the transfer fee, which can matter more than the rate on small amounts. Assuming today's rate will hold until the payment settles.
